Introduction
How to become a Part 1 and Part 2 Offshore Diver

The Norwegian School of Commercial Diving (NYD) established in 1989 educates commercial divers for the inshore and offshore industries in accordance with the highest international standards.   

What is a Part 1 Offshore Diver?

This is a commercial certified diver who works down to 50 meters water depth.  The diver is trained in using various types of diving methods, equipment and tools.  The tasks are inspection, construction and salvage. The certified Part 1 offshore diver is qualified also for similar civil work inshore and light diving such as rescue diving in fire brigades and police diving.

How to become a Part 1 Offshore Diver

NYD offers the Part 1 Course.  By succeeding our 16 weeks course you become a Part 1 Offshore Diver.  We have three courses every year, starting in March, August and November.

What is a Part 2 Offshore Diver ?

This is saturation diving, a method used in underwater operations deeper than 50 meters.

How to become a Part 2 Offshore Diver

You need to have passed the Part 1 Offshore Diver course.  After having completed the Part 1 course a 12 months experience from commercial diving is required.  The experience must consist of a minimum of 50 hours bottom time including 10 hours deeper than 20 meters and 6 hours deeper than 30 meters).  When fulfilling these requirements you can apply for the INPP Mixed Gas/Closed Bell course which has a duration of 4 weeks.
